A new startup with a new idea. Startup TigerTag launched this week with the objective of helping reunite people with their lost valuables by “harnessing the power of goodwill.”

As the owner, you can get and affix a unique TigerTag to your valuables and then register your items at TigerTag.com. If any of your tagged items is misplaced and someone finds it, then the finder can go to TigerTag.com and enter the unique ID of the item to find out the owner that is you.

The service is free, but TigerTag charges users $2 for shipping and handling of the tags. If you lose an item tagged by a TigerTag, you can go to the site and fill out a lost form. When someone finds your lost item and registers the Tag on the site, the site will connect and notify the owner.

The site works with the assumption that finders would work as good Samaritans and will try to find the owner via TigerTag’s site.

TigerTag is also being offered as a white label service to large consumer electronics brands. TigerTag thinks that such brands could provide the services as part of their product packaging.

The startup was co-founded by a former Skype employee, Eric Lagier. Its competitors in the space include Life360.
