The third quarter has brought good news for the advertising world. After two quarters of dismal performance (annual declines), online advertising revenue seems to have stabilized in the third quarter. During this period, the online advertising revenues of Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL combined throws 1.2% to $8 billion.

During this time of online advertising recession, only Google ad revenues rose about $400 million from the last year. Ad revenues of Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL went down on a sequential basis. As these four companies make up a large portion of the total Internet advertising, so their combined advertising revenue works as a good indicator of the state of overall online advertising industry.

Search advertising is showing recovery but display advertising is yet to recover from the slump. The benefits that Google had mostly came from search advertising.
