Many rumors have been circulating around the new form of the PSP, Sony’s handheld gaming device. First it was reported that PSP will lose its UMD drive; then get a cosmetic overhaul; then a Christmas release date forecast. But now the right information.
According to 1Up which cited “inside sources” Sony have modified the newest PSP, which is likely to be named the PSP Go! This Go word has probably came from Sony’s recent usage of Go! on its European PSP peripherals, like Go!View and Go!Cam.
PSP Go! Is likely to lose the UMD drive for digital downloads which will reside on the internal flash memory unit. PSP Go! Will have two models: with 8GB and 16GB memory. Now this news has got some value as Sony’s recently released Patapon 2 as dgital download-only. Along with the device launch, Sony may launch 100 downloadable games in its store which will rang from the PSP’s old disc titles to new titles.
What do people with UMD discs do? Another rumor answers this. Sony will provide in-store kiosks to allow gamers to dump UMD data onto their PSP Go! Which will make sure gamers do not have to buy the same games again.
But abandoning the UMD may have its impact and Sony may lose customers.
There is no “dual analog nubs” in this new Sony PSP Go! Which game enthusiasts were waiting for a long time now. Rumors talks about slide-out controls beneath the screen for the new PSP.
Seeing the recent boom of iPhone touch screen games, the PSP Go! Might come up with a touch screen. This will help PSP to take on the main rivals iPhone/iPod Touch and Nintendo’s DSi.
Sony is expected to go live with the PSP Go! at the E3 summit in June. Japanese market will see it in September and the United States customers will experience it in the Fall.
