6 January 2009 One Comment

When users previously wanted Internet videos in their tv screen, they had to buy separate device such as a DVD player, a video-game console or a set-top box with Internet access.

But now the scenario is different. Users now can go through a direct route. LG has announced a new line of television which are capable of receiving direct Internet videos along with cable and satellite signals.

The Name

The new line of these internet enabled LCD and plasma televisions will be called Broadband HDTVs. Remember that LG Electronics is the third-largest television manufacturer in the world.

Cost

The cost of such Broadband HDTVs will have a premium of $300 in comparison to other models without Internet access, according to  Tim Alessi, Director of Product Development, LG Electronics.

However, users of the new TV will not be able to browse the Internet. But the  Broadband HDTV  users will be able to access several video sites. The one video site that buyers of this TV will be able to view is Netflix.

Users of the Broadband HDTVs will have access to any of the 12,000 films and television shows in Netflix’s Watch Instantly library. Netflix is expanding its Watch Instantly offerings so as to cash on this opportunity. Several Showtime programs such as the season premieres of “The L Word,” “United States of Tara” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” will be added to the library soon.
