Gmail has shed its “beta” tag and after more than five years officially being in testing mode.
Google Inc. announces that its e-mail service and along with three other applications in the Google Apps suite for businesses are now out of beta and are finished products.
So Google has dropped it?
Google says that the move aims at wooing business customers. The premier edition Apps suite costs $50 per user to business customers. The premier edition has some added features such as offline access and 24/7 customer support.
“Many of the companies that have looked in depth at the apps have seen that they are feature complete,” Rajen Sheth, a Google senior product manager, said in an interview. “But there is a kind of perception thing, and in many cases that stops companies in their tracks from even looking at it.”
Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Talk all are out of beta mode. Google Sites and Google Video are already out of the beta label. However, the Apps suite does not include Google Scholars, which still carry the tag.
