Here comes another desktop twitter client for Mac. There are plenty of such clients for Mac users to use. Tweetie is a new OS X Twitter client. This tool from atebits is due on Monday but let’s have a first look.
Tweetie provides a compact window which will allow you to read tweets, replies, mentions and direct messages. It also lets you search the entire Twitterverse. You can see the tweets in an iChat-like interface. You can use multiple accounts through this tool. Using this tool, you can perform most of the twitter operations, such as sending a new tweet and switching timelines. You can perform everything using the keyboard.
Tweetie offers several features -
The new tweet window is separate from Tweetie’s window. So you can keep sending your updates even after closing the main Tweetie window.
The window which you use to post updates has a drop-down menu for switching between accounts. So you can post updates under different names.
You can drag your pictures from the Finder to the posting window. Tweetie will automatically upload the image and share them with your friends and followers.
Tweetie also offers a bookmarklet, using which you can send a Web link from your browser. You also get a URL-shortening service in this tool.
Tweetie is good at searching through the replies, the user profiles, and Twitter. When you click through the reply chain, you will see a breadcrumb trail. You can click the users’ icon which will display latest posts, favorite tweets, profile and follower stats in a page.
Tweetie is visually appealing and it offers sliding views of user profiles, direct messages and other features. If you double click on a reply, you will see a fancy fade-zoom which displays a list of all the back-and-forth tweets by participants. You will find small blue badges next to the mentions, direct messages and timeline to inform you about new messages.
Loren Brichter is the developer for atebits. Tweetie does not have the popular custom groups feature. Tweetie will be available both a free, ad-supported version (featuring infrequent ads from fusionads.net) and a paid version for $14.95.
