Finnish startup throws small ball at gaming console giants
If you attend the great MindTrek conference, you’re sure to notice one day more by a startup Ball-it. The fledgling company markets a golfball-sized device. It is special device? Yes.
This goflball-sized device can interact with your computer, TV or mobile phone with the help of physical wireless sensing technology made popular in large part by the Nintendo Wii gaming console.
Tech blog Venturebeat profiled Ball-it about 10 months ago.
A little ball acts as a game controller. The ball detects activities like direction movements, rotation, squeezing, tapping and reaction speed, and so you can make these gestures by wielding the ball and triggering an on-screen activity. There are two games every liberal which where developed for the device.
You can also keep the ball in your pants pockets. The ball can also detect the speed you are running at, the height you jump and other movements which can control basic sports games. It also works as a pedometer and can measure calories you burn.
Ball-it will market the device will in the near future for the price of an average PC game and actually include six basic PC games in the same box. Players will be able to buy additional games from the company’s web shop.
